Looking to ninja up your poi skills this fall? Join Temple of Poi for the 2014 Fall Poi Intermediate / Advanced Boot Camp.

At the beginning of each session, we will assess where students are at, suggest different possible content and based on the feedback of the students present that night, we will co-create a fun learning experience where everyone grows their skills.

Details

  • Space is limited so students are encouraged to sign up for the series rather than drop in.
  • We are looking for a committed group of practitioners who wish to study throughout the fall and work on the concepts described herein.
  • This program covers the tuition for 17 sessions being held between September 22, 2014 and December 17, 2014.
  • Students attending 10 sessions or less should pay the series or drop in rate rather than joining the boot camp. Students who can attend 11 or more sessions will benefit financially through this program.
  • Tuition is reduced from the regular rate of $510 for all 17 sessions to $320, or $30/class to $18.82 per class, paid in 4 payments of $80 due on or before the 15th of September, October, November and December 2014.
  • Note: All payments are due for package discounts even if student does not attend the classes!

Curriculum

This boot camp will have 5 main areas of focus:

  • Size Matters: a 2 week poi series that focuses on big and small movement of the arms and poi, using poi that have been wrapped to make them shorter as well as extensions of the arms. Great for advanced beginners, intermediates and other artists with gaps in knowledge about short poi movements and long arm pirouettes.
  • Transition Flair: this 4 week poi class series focuses on adding more fun and flow to your style by introducing combinations using stalls, under the leg, tosses, plane breaking, tangles (air wraps, hyper loops, orbitals), spirals, wraps, floats and more. This is a mixed level series that allow poi students to take as much or as little of the material is appropriate for their level of skill. Class structure is decided in the flow, based on the students in the class, material known to them and material they wish to cover.
  • Funky Foot Flow & Combos: 3 sessions, each independent of the others, where students provide a series of moves GlitterGirl will then transform into a combination utilizing what the practitioners bring to the class. The dynamic generation of combinations makes for a unique experience each time personalized based on those attending.
  • Flowers, CAPS, Hybrids, Antispin, Lockouts and more is a 4 week series covering in spin and antispin combinations of flowers on the vertical and horizontal planes. This series is a mixed level class and students will work at their own pace so be prepared to focus on your own needs rather than allow distractions to pull you from your path.
  • Behind the Waist Wrap: explore the plane behind the back through weaves, waist wraps, crossers, melt downs, stalls and more in this 4 week series that will improve your flexibility and extend your repertoire.

As always, at Temple of Poi we customize the material based on the students attending and work each student to their edge to the best of our ability. Your job is to show up and learn what you can rather than try to learn everything being presented, as we intentionally present more material than the student can achieve in the sessions to help keep their practice moving forward.

All sessions meet at Lines Ballet (26 7th Street, 5th Floor, San Francisco, CA, USA). Monday session are held in Studio 4. Wednesday sessions are held in Studio 2. All sessions are 8-9:20 officially, though we sometimes run till 9:30,

Below is the list of dates and the material being covered that class. Please note: while the class topic is specific, the content is always based on the attendees in the class so every class is unique. All sessions are designed to be repeated as each session covers different content, expanding comprehension for students.

Follow the links below to see class descriptions and preview videos to give you a deeper sense of the material being covered. As always, we will meet you where your practice is rather than expect you to be at a particular level.
